Job Description
West Power Energy is looking for a Project Manager to join the overhead transmission and distribution team in our Burnaby, BC, Canada office. The successful candidate will manage and coordinate the overall delivery of our services with a further description and responsibilities below. The primary duties include:
Project Management Responsibilities:
- Promotes a safety-first culture.
- Oversight of planning, design, engineering, and execution of all project deliverables across multiple simultaneous workstreams in support of Project(s) or Program(s).
- Coordinate work effort between all dependent departments, groups, teams, and tasks.
- Manage design requests, drawing progress, and environmental, jurisdictional, regulatory, and other support tasks to ensure timely execution of activities through solution acceptance by stakeholders.
- Execute planning, status, and ad-hoc meetings as required; supply meeting minutes and track and communicate risks and issues and execute mitigating steps, as necessary.
- Provide advice and recommendations on the following: the effective execution of the teams to meet project scope requirements while considering budget requirements, recommendations regarding various delivery methods suitable for the project or program, optimal project scheduling options, enhanced design, and construction quality, and optimum flexibility in contracting and procurement options.
- Work closely with the team leads and department managers to utilize existing resources to minimize project labor costs.
- Analyzes data and user needs to determine functional and cross-functional requirements.
- Provides management oversight across multiple simultaneous projects or project tracts within a Project or Program.
- Operates in a business or technical environment, using analytical and evaluative techniques.
- Performs scenario development, feasibility studies, and cost-benefit analyses.
- Monitor and coordinate the schedule, technical accuracy, efficiency, coordination, and constructability of the program and cost-effectiveness of all designs, drawings, reports, estimates, and other work as required.
- Manages and builds client relationships and trust thru effective project execution and interaction.
Financial Management Responsibilities
- Provide detailed communication and reporting based on internal and client expectations with weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting within an agreed-upon format.
- Develop detailed budgets and tracking against company financial systems, process & procedures, scope, and change management, as deemed necessary.
- Manage monthly cash flows, vendor, and internal spending, including internal labor.
- Update financial reporting and forecasts as requested and update near and long-term forecasts, as necessary.
- Track line-item details and ensure erroneous charges are migrated to appropriate work orders, internal orders, or projects as appropriate
Qualifications
Experience
Required
- Minimum of 7 years of specialized experience in Utility and related disciplines, including 3 or more years managing Transmission and Distribution projects.
- Proven aptitude and demonstrated experience in high-volume, complex projects.
- Must be capable of exercising discretion and independent judgment in the application of Transmission and Distribution Engineering.
- Proven leader and coach in simultaneous projects and programs demonstrated communication skills - verbal, written, and in a presentation format with the ability to motivate and lead a team to success.
- Demonstrated results in managing projects, which includes proposal development, contract negotiations, project planning, design team coordination & communication, budgeting, schedule management, and client coordination.
- Exemplary analytical cost management/cost control and risk management expertise including financial modeling, utilization of costing tools, and risk management processes.
- Operates in a business or technical environment, using analytical and evaluative techniques.
- Regulated utility exposure preferred.
- Prior experience with Canadian utility companies.
Education and Qualifications
- B.S. in Engineering, Business Management, or equivalent field from an accredited curriculum.
- Project Management Professional (PMP), Agile or other Program Management certifications, training, and/or demonstrated experience preferred.
- Advanced degree in Business or Engineering, preferred.
- Professional Engineer licensure is desired.
- Experience with scheduling software such as Microsoft Project and/or Primavera P6 preferred.
